A FEW UPDATES – Town of Matthews v. Wright & Purser Park Petition

On March 24, 2014 the Board of Commissioners voted “to engage the Parker Poe firm to work with Mr. Buckley to figure out the best strategy for the Town with regard to this case.”  The motion was made by Commissioner Melton seconded by Mr. Pata and unanimously approved.  Amount I have totaled paid by the citizens of Matthews to engage with the law firm of Parker Poe Allen and Bernstien is $54,147.46  and this does not include payment to Town Attorney Charles Buckley.

NCCOA opinion 4-21-2015

On August 24, 2015 the Board of Commissioners approved the Budget Ordinance Amendment releasing payment to Mr. and Mrs. Wright for attorney fees as ruled by the NC Court of Appeals on August 4, 2015.  You will notice in the description it is listed as “Legal Fees”.  In my opinion, this is just another way to mislead the citizens from knowing the truth.

For the month of June 2015 MATTHEWS WATCH posted a petition requesting the town to honor the naming rights as promised to WWII Veteran Neubert Purser.  Since the petition there has been more incorrect information provided and if anyone asked Matthews about the condemnation they were told the town paid for the land.  By law Matthews had to pay for the land, but make no mistake it was condemned by a “quick take” power.  It is still uncertain if the town will be honoring the naming rights and currently there are no funds for the park.

There will be no new postings until after the election.  Thank you and please remember to support MATTHEWS WATCH by telling your friends and neighbors.
