Update Town of Matthews v. Wright –
For over ten years the Wrights have been fighting for their property rights. We were told the condemnation was for “opening, widening, extending or improving roads, streets, alleys, and sidewalks, and being more particularly described as Home Place.” When in fact there were no plans for any improvements. The Towns condemnation was found to be for the “well connected” of Matthews. Emails sent by Mayor James P. Taylor through his private email account in order to protect the privacy of the communications to residents expecting the town to fulfill their commitment.
On April 21, 2015 the North Carolina Court of Appeals dismissed the towns claims. NCCOA opinion 4-21-2015 On May 29, 2015 the Wrights filed for attorney’s fees. Wright – Supplemental Motion for Cost & Attorney’s Fees On August 4, 2015 Honorable Judge Eric L. Levinson ruled in favor of the Wrights awarding them $74,570.00. Order Allowing Costs and Attorney’s Fees This amount is to be paid within sixty days from August 4, 2015. So now it comes to this. Will Matthews appeal or bring this injustice to an end? After ten years of our tax dollars being spent in pursuing the condemnation the Town of Matthews has accomplished nothing.
